Sat 6th NOV - NWC Bowl - Bank Quay Bulls A 18 -V- Widnes Tigers 20
THE Tigers faced Bank Quay Bulls A in the first round of the North West Counties Bowl.

They were 8-0 behind from an early penalty, awarded against Jason Wall for lying on, followed by a converted try.

The forwards led by prop Shaun Rooney and supported by Andy Abbott, Jason Wall, Gary Tones, Dave Smith and Dave Mullarky kept driving towards the Bulls line.

They were finally rewarded with a try from Andy Abbott eight minutes before half time. Adam Gill converted. With Mat Gill brought on to add some weight to the attack, the Tigers scored two more tries.

The first from Mat Holian, after wingman Stuart Bell had made the yards.

The second came on the stroke of half time from prop Dave Smith. Adam Gill was unable to add to both.

In the second half, the Tigers extended their lead to 8-18 with a try from Shaun Filkins.

Gill added a further two points with a penalty. The Tigers seemed to ease off, allowing Bank Quay to score a converted try. A drop goal attempt from Gill failed to add the vital one pointer and in a nailbiting finish Bank Quay scored another try in the final seconds, which if converted would have levelled the score. The kick was missed and the Tigers won 18-20 Back to top

Rylands A 16

RYLANDS edged Saturday's closely fought North West Counties Division Six 'derby' in the closing 10 minutes.

The Bulls looked like they had got themselves back in the game at 8-12 but a length of the field break away try by Anthony Poole put the game beyond them.

Marcus Shaw finished the scoring for the Bulls with a 30-yard run.

Best for the Bulls were man of the match Paul Carrol, Daz Cragg and Paul Stringer and best for Rylands were Mike Lee, Paul Bagley, Poole and Thurston. Back to top
